Vote expected before Easter on casino bill

DOVER, Del. - March 15, 2010

Democratic House Majority Leader Pete Schwartzkopf is the sponsor of a bill that would help expand gambling in a state where it is currently limited to three racetracks.

The House may soon work out a compromise that would allow some new casinos under a public selection process. The bill would need 21 votes to reach the Senate, where it faces a less certain future.

Gov. Jack Markell recommended last year that the state add up to three casinos, but the proposal was scrapped. Schwartzkopf says the vote will likely be held prior to the two-week break for Easter.
