DA: Bus driver was reckless before crash

LOWER FREDERICK TWP., Pa. - March 15, 2010

Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman says Frederick Poust III was driving recklessly before the crash that killed 27-year-old Richard Taylor.

In fact, the DA says Poust blew through 10 stop signs before the crash, actions which were caught on the video camera inside the bus.

Prosecutors say Poust turned in front of an oncoming car in Zieglerville, killing Taylor and injuring the driver. Five students were also hurt.

Poust was cited for careless driving in a 1999 crash that killed a 2-year-old girl, touching off a national debate about motorists using cell phones.

Investigators say he was not using a cell phone at the time of last month's crash.

Poust is charged with homicide by vehicle. His attorney did not immediately respond to a phone message Monday.
