Fire hits Center City high rise

CENTER CITY - March 16, 2010

The Action Cam and Chopper 6 also responded to 123 South Broad Street where a fire broke out at 7:40 p.m.

Officials tell Action News the fire was on the bottom floors of the 20-story building that houses several businesses including Wachovia Bank. The building suffered significant smoke and water damage.

The building is the principal location for the film "Trading Places" starring Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd.

150 people had to be evacuated and a large section of South Broad Street was shut down for most of the night. The fire was so intense that in some spots the heat broke windows and melted some of the ornate metal framework at the front of the building.

Investigators are still trying to figure out just what started the fire.
