Police say just before 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, the 20-year-old driver lost control of his car while traveling along the northbound inner lanes of the Boulevard near Borbeck Street in the Rhawnhurst section of the city.
The force of the collision split the car into two halves.
Half of the car ended up in the northbound lanes, while the other half landed in the southbound lanes.
Paramedics took the driver to the hospital where he's being treated for a variety of serious injuries.
Police closed off the road for a couple of hours while they tried to determine the cause.
