Daycare owner on trial in death of Pa. boy

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - March 16, 2010

Opening arguments were held Tuesday afternoon in a Doylestown court for former daycare owner /*Rimma Shvartsman*/.

Shvartsman was the owner of Fairy Tales Daycare in Penndel, Bucks County.

Authorities say, back on July 1, 2009, Shvartsman picked up 2-year-old /*Daniel Slutsky*/ at his home and drove him to the daycare.

But, prosecutors say, she forgot about the child and left him in the van for hours.

When he was found, Slutsky's body had a temperature of 108 degrees. He also appeared to have let himself out of a car seat in an attempt to escape the van.

Shvartsman is charged with involuntary manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child.

The boy's parents have filed a lawsuit against the day care center.
