Neighborhood on edge after rash of burglaries

CHERRY HILL, N.J. - March 23, 2010

The most recent break-in happened on Monday and many of the crimes have been in the Barclay Farms section of the township.

Helene Santola was one of the people who was victimized.

"We came in and my son noticed right away the TV was missing," said Santola.

Police say the thieves are taking mostly laptop computers, TVs, and other electronic items. Jewelry and cash are also nabbed if handy.

"The MOs appear to be the same. They come in from unlocked doors or they break in from the back of the house," said Lt. Bill Kushina of the Cherry Hill Police.

In Helene Santola's case the bandits apparently came through the front door. They made their way to the second floor where they helped themselves to other possessions.

"I got a little nervous and went upstairs and they had taken some cash and jewelry. I knew it was for real," she said.

Police say eight burglaries have occurred in the Barclay Farms section bordered by Kresson Road, Route 70, Brace Road and Route 295.

The latest crime happened Monday in the 300 block of Bortons Mill Road where the front door was forced open and jewelry stolen.

Lt. Kushina says all of the crimes have happened between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

"People are not home, kids are at school, and they make their way through the development," Lt. Kushina said.

To help prevent burglars from striking your home, police say be sure to keep doors and windows locked, even if you are just leaving for a short time. If you see any suspicious activity in your neighborhood, report it to the police right away.
