Arrest in young mother's murder

UPPER CHICHESTER TWP., Pa. - March 26, 2010

/*Dana Felts*/ was found inside her Upper Chichester home earlier this week, her throat was slashed.

Action News reporter Katherine Scott is covering the story. She reports that the suspect, 34-year-old Walter Martin, confessed to killing Felts and apparently making off with about $3,500 she had recently won at a casino.

Police say Martin told them he went to Felts' home Monday night to buy drugs when an argument started.

"He got into an argument with Felts which became physical," said Upper Chichester Police Chief Thomas Bush, "and he struck Felts with a baseball bat several times and then cut Felts' throat with a razor."

Martin and his girlfriend were picked up late Monday night on a retail theft charge. Evidence that police discovered linked Martin to the killing.

Police say the couple had heroin and a large roll of money with what appaered to be blood on it.

Felts' aunt, who had just returned from babysitting Felts' two young children, made the discovery Tuesday night.

Nicole Brown, Martin's girlfriend, is still being held for the retail theft charge, but has not been charged with any crime linked to Felts' killing.

This is the second brutal attack this week for the normally quiet Upper Chichester. An 83-year-old was beaten on Monday.

Investigators say the two cases do not appear connected.
