EXCLUSIVE: Police raid reported 'nuisance' bar

UPPER DARBY, Pa. - March 27, 2010 The surprise raid was carried out by Pennsylvania State Police, agents from the Liquor Control Board and officers from the Upper Darby police.

12 people were taken into custody for various offenses including drug possession and parole violations. Three video poker machines were also confiscated.

Police say the place has been a public nuisance for years.

"Hopefully this will be the nail in the coffin that will shut this joint down," said Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood.

"I heard about the trouble that went on inside it was an unlucky incident," said Dom Jenkins.

12 unlucky incidents since 2007 according to police with last week's fatal shooting in the bathroom considered the worst. 30-year-old Richard China Hines is still wanted for the murder of a 24-year-old man.

No one from Cheers spoke to Action News about the raid or the future of the bar.

The bar was officially shut down for health reasons.

In Upper Darby bars are supposed to stop serving liquor at 1:45 a.m. but people were said to be inside the bar at 3:30 a.m. and marijuana blunts were reportedly found all over the floor.
