Reputed mob underboss accused of spitting on cop

MARGATE, N.J. - March 28, 2010

A charge of assault with a bodily fluid was brought against Marty Angelina last week by an Atlantic County grand jury, but was not made public until Friday. He faces a maximum sentence of 18 months in state prison if convicted.

The Sept. 1 incident occurred when Margate police responded to a condominium to investigate noise complaints. Angelina was arrested there on a disorderly persons charge and taken to the police station, where he allegedly spit on Officer Christopher Taroncher's face.

The 47-year-old Angelina could not be reached for comment Sunday afternoon.
