Specter and Sestak hold public forums

PHILADELPHIA - March 29, 2010 Since converting to the Democratic Party a year ago Arlen Specter has quickly evolved into an Obama democrat. With the primary showdown only 7 weeks away the 30-year incumbent senator holds a double digit lead over his opponent, Congressman Joe Sestak, the retired admiral, who is still struggling with name recognition across Pennsylvania.

In their on-going cat and mouse game both held public forums on Monday on themes taken right from the latest headlines. To insure coverage Specter held a one politician hearing playing off the cyberspace scandal in Lower Merion, reports of alleged spying using webcams and laptops loaned to students in the Lower Merion School District.

"The situation in Lower Merion has exposed a gap in federal law," Senator Specter explained.

Sestak's backdrop was community activists assembled to discuss the root causes of teenage violence namely the flash mobs riots that drew national attention to Philadelphia.

"How do you break what is a status quo approach to a problem that hasn't changed but only got worse."

Polls show roughly half the democratic voters remain undecided.

Soon both camps will pull the gloves off and start running expensive televsion attack ads.

"When he's got the worst attendance record of anybody in the Pennsylvania delegation he ought not to be asking for a promotion he ought to be subject to court martial," said Senator Specter.

"I would lost my job in a heartbeat to have gotten that healthcare bill through, it was that important. And that's what they're looking for not someone who is just going to switch positions to keep his job. This is really about principle," said Congressman Sestak.

Their dual will determine who takes on GOP conservative Pat Toomey in the fall. Polls so far show Toomey running strong against either one.

For months Specter and Sestak have been sniping at each other hotly through internet press releases. Now as April showers arrive the elements are in place for a heap of mud-slinging and a wholesale springtime smack down.
