DeSean speaks on McNabb, foundation

March 31, 2010

DeSean Jackson and his family set up a foundation in honor of his father Bill Jackson who passed away last year after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

"It's hard going through the things I went through, seeing my dad struggle like that and there's really no cure for pancreatic cancer and I'm just going to do anything I can to help other patients prevent that from happening," DeSean said.

The foundation is holding an X Speed Camp on May 15, 2010, where attendees can learn from the pros. Proceeds from the X Speed Camp benefit the Pancreatic Cancer Foundation. More information on the event can be found on the DeSean Jackson Foundation website at foundation10.com

Number 10 says his father is still his driving force going into the upcoming season.

"He drove me to where I am today and anything I can do to give back to my dad, where he's looking down on me, smiling, and just proud of the things I'm doing," DeSean said.

Jackson is taking part in voluntary workouts at the NovaCare complex. He says his focus is on not repeating those defeats to the Dallas Cowboys that ended the 2009 season.

"This going on my third, especially with how close we've been able to get in both years, making it to the playoffs, first year NFC Championship, and last year, making it to the first round, which is good, but we've got to go farther than that," DeSean said.

DeSean says it's all about controlling the little things, however, one not so little thing that has been all over the sports world are rumors of Donovan McNabb being traded.

"If it comes down to Donovan leaving or staying, I wish him the best; hopefully, I do think he will stay here, but whatever happens, I will support him. It was great playing with him, if he does leave," DeSean said.

If that is indeed the case, an Eagles team sans McNabb has Jackson hopeful about those left to take number 5's spot.

"I have a lot of confidence in Kevin Kolb; he's a great quarterback…with him only being in a couple games in the NFL, what he's capable of showing me, the things he's done already, he has a lot of upsides," DeSean said.

But whether it's McNabb, Kolb, or Vick helming the quarterback role, Jackson does not know, he just hopes whatever happens equates to a winning season.

"We don't know, nobody knows. I will support the situation, I hope it works out for the best for us, makes our team a better team, whether it's with [McNabb] or without him," DeSean said.
