The accident occurred around 6:30 near the intersection of Hellerman Street and Brouse Avenue in Philadelphia's Mayfair section.
The police car was broadsided by another vehicle and the impact of the crash trapped the officer inside of his vehicle.
Firefighters were forced to cut the 38-year-old police officer from his patrol car. He was taken by ambulance to Aria-Torresdale Hospital to be treated. No word yet on his condition, although his injuries are not being considered life threatening.
The driver of the striking car was also injured and taken to Aria-Torresdale for treatment. No word yet on if that driver will face charges.
