Allegheny Township's supervisors voted 3-0 Monday to remove Cezar from its police force effective immediately.

Solicitor Bernie Matthews Jr. says the dog bit the girl during a "non-police event." Matthews said that incident could have raised questions as to "why the dog was still in service."

The dog's handler will be given the option of buying him for $1 and keeping him as a pet. If the officer passes, others will get a chance to buy the dog for $1. Township officials say the dog will not be destroyed.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's charitable foundation had helped pay for the dog.
