Woman, 76, critically hurt in Del. house fire

WILMINGTON, Del. - April 13, 2010

The fire broke out in a rowhouse in the 200 block of East 29th Street Tuesday afternoon. Officials say the fire started on the first floor and spread to the second floor, roof and home next door.

Officials say firefighters rescued the woman who was overcome by smoke and burned. She was taken to Christiana Hospital, where she's in critical condition with second- and third-degree burns.

Deputy Fire Chief Joseph Kalinowski says it took firefighters about an hour to control the blaze. He says people in the home next door were able to escape.
