The teachers' most recent contract expired in September.
According to a report in The Intelligencer, the union asked for a three-year contract with 3.5 percent raises in the first year and 4 percent raises in the second and third, plus step increases based on education and experience. The district asked for a two-year contract with no raises in the first year and 1 percent raises in the second, plus step increases.
Teachers authorized union leadership to strike when contract negotiations stalled this summer and reauthorized the move at meetings earlier this week, the Intelligencer reports.
