Feds seek death for kingpin who had witness slain

PHILADELPHIA - April 19, 2010

Jurors are deciding the fate of 38-year-old Maurice Phillips of Upper Marlboro, Md., after convicting him of killing a 50-year-old money launderer and her adult godson.

Federal prosecutors say Chineta Glanville helped drug dealers launder millions in illegal proceeds. They say godson Dane King became "collateral damage" when he visited her Philadelphia-area home the day of the 2002 murder.

Prosecutors say Glanville had been cooperating in the FBI investigation of Phillips' multi-state cocaine operation.

Defense lawyers say Phillips deserves life because hitman Bryant Phillips may leave prison in a few years.
