Around 9:45 a.m. Thursday police were called out to the Sheridan West Academy, located at 3701 Frankford Avenue, for the report of a person with a weapon.
When police arrived they were told that an 8th grade boy was in class marking up a desk with a sharpie marker. He was told to go to the principal's office. The principal told the boy to empty his pockets. When the boy emptied his pockets, a switchblade knife fell out.
Police took the boy into custody.
