Police in Leavenworth, Kansas, report the man found the dough outside a supermarket March 29.
He turned over the money earlier this week.
The cash had been lost by another man who had just sold a car.
Police Maj. Robert Smith says the finder explained he had been out of work and took the money to pay bills.
But the finder decided not to be a keeper when he found a job.
Smith says the man is sorry.
The person who lost the cash is happy to get it back and doesn't want to prosecute.
