Taking tree hugging to another level

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (AP) - April 22, 2010

Officials got a tip that someone was swiping evergreens from a state nature preserve on eastern Long Island.

Authorities say they caught the evergreen thief red-handed, with six trees.

Gilberto Arturo Bonilla-Sorta pleaded guilty this week.

Forest rangers later found nearly 90 holes where there were once trees.

Authorities aren't sure what the man was doing with the stolen trees, but say junipers can sell for as much as $160 apiece.
