The Volunteers finished in 17 minutes, 14.91 seconds; the fourth-fastest time in Penn Relays history. Jackie Areson gave Tennessee the lead with a second-leg time of 4 minutes, 18.3 seconds.
Reid came on strong in the end of the last leg, but Wright held her off in the final 100 meters.
Tennessee began the weekend with a win in Thursday's distance medley. If the Vols win the 1,600 relay, they would repeat a feat they accomplished last season, when they became the sixth women's team to win all three major distance relays at the meet.
