Teen: Arrested Phila. doctor a "sugar daddy"

PHILADELPHIA - April 27, 2010

It was like a neighborhood frat house, but the guy throwing the parties was a 61-year-old retired doctor.

Girls who've been to the home of Dr. Tawfik Nakishbendi say the parties were wild affairs where booze flowed like water and drugs were handed out like candy.

Action News obtained photos taken at some of the parties, a house full of teenage girls and boys.

"He was just like a sugar daddy, gave them anything they needed," said 16-year-old Jessica Durkin of Roxborough. She says Nakishbendi lavished the girls with attention.

"He would take us out food shopping, he would take us out for clothes, he would take us jewelry shopping," she said.

She says he also took them to Delaware to buy cases of liquor. But, Jessica says, she eventually realized Dr. Nakishbendi wanted something in return.

"One day he asked me if I would give him naked pictures and he would buy them off of me," she said. "He would ask me to come over by myself, no boys allowed, always saying I could sleep there, trying to get me to stay with him."

When Jessica refused his advances, she says she was banned from the house.

Police arrested Dr. Nakishbendi last week for allegedly raping another 16-year-old girl. That girl told police he once put a gun to her head.

Police searched Dr. Nakishbendi's house and found guns inside.

Jessica's mother, Denise, says she was shocked when she learned of the parties.

"They kept it secret, 'Mom we're going out to a friend's house.' Never in a million years would have thought it was a 60-year-old man that they're partying with," Denise Durkin said.

Action News also spoke with the mother of the alleged victim on Tuesday and she says her 16-year-old daughter became addicted to prescription pain killers and is now in rehab.

Dr. Nakishbendi is being held on $250,000 bail while police continue their investigation.

More girls speak out

Two teenage girls, who did not want to be identified, told similar stories to Action News.

"He would tell everybody not to bring guys around, then it would end up being a group of girls," one of the teens said. "He would have them stay over then whatever happened, happened."

That girl also confirmed what Jessica said: Nakishbendi clearly wanted sexual favors in return for the parties and shopping trips. Furthermore, if a teen was over a certain age, she was not invited.

She said Dr. Nakishbendi would say "If you're over the age of 18, and you're not having sex, get out." When the girls refused sex, they say they were no longer welcome.

"Me and my friend were in his car last weekend and I got into a fight with him. He said 'If you're not having sex get out of my car."

Another teen said Dr. Nakishbendi would call some of the girls his "little wives."

"Certain girls he would call them "wifeys," she said. "Like, Wifey #1, Wifey #2, Wifey #3."
