Fire truck hits car, four rescuers hurt

WILMINGTON, Del. - April 28, 2010

It happened at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday at A Street and South Walnut Street.

According to investigators, a 2008 Audi AA4 driven by 35 year old Christopher Swyka of Elkton Md. was travelling northbound on S. Walnut Street when the traffic light turned red.

Swyka claimed that his brakes failed and he continued through the intersection, striking a fire truck travelling eastbound on "A" Street.

4 firefighters from Engine 3 Station 2 in Southbridge suffered minor injuries and were treated and released from an area hospital.

The truck was not responding to a call at the time of the accident.

Swyka was issued a summons for careless driving and released. He was uninjured.
