DA: Man drove on sidewalk to hit teen

AMBLER, Pa. - April 30, 2010

Derrick Glenn, Jr., 19, is charged in the March 19th crime in the Ambler section of Lower Gwynedd Township.

At 10:48 p.m. that Friday night, police were called to Knights Road near Houston Road for a report of a pedestrian hit by a car. When they arrived, they found the 16-year-old victim lying on the road.

He was taken to Abington Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

The District Attorney's office says witnesses at the scene identified the car involved, which investigators later said Glenn was driving.

Investigators say they found out that Glenn and a group of teens, including the victim, had gotten in an argument.

The victim was hit, authorities say, when Glenn drove up on the sidewalk, hitting him at between 17 and 37 miles per hour. The victim went up on the roof and rolled off back onto the sidewalk.

Police went to Glenn's home after the crash and found his car with fresh hood and windshield damage.

Investigators also say there was no mechanical evidence or defects that would have contributed to the crash. They also say Glenn's license was suspended at the time of the crash.
