Harley-Davidson store in NJ suddenly shuts down

MILLVILLE, N.J. - May 4, 2010

For 35 years the dealership has been an iconic fixture on Route 47. But, without notice, the business failed to open this week and no one is exactly sure why.

"A lot of people came here to get parts and accessories and all that. Where do we go now?" said Floyd Cramer of Millville, New Jersey.

Buzz Burlley got nervous when he came to pick up his serviced bike and no one was there. Fortunately, even though the store is closed, customers were able to pick up their hogs.

"I wasn't sure when I'd get it back or if I'd get it back," Burlley said.

About a dozen people worked at the Harley store, and many are members of the Macrine family who also owns the Harley-Davidson store in Wildwood. It too ceased operations this week.

The famous motorcycle manufacturer was affected by the economic downturn, but the store owners would not say if that's what prompted their action.

The owners of the dealership would not comment on camera, citing contractual agreements with Harley-Davidson. However, they did indicate they would make an announcement on future plans in a few days.
