The man has been identified as 25-year-old Jose Miguel Charriez of Wilmington. He died around 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
The shooting itself happened on Monday.
Police say Charriez was in the passenger seat of a friend's car stopped at the intersection of Adams and Ninth streets when he was shot.
Master Sgt. Steven Barnes says multiple shots were fired into the rear window and trunk lid of the car. The driver, who was not injured, drove his friend to a local hospital.
Barnes says detectives are still investigating and there is no suspect description.
