Police arrest 8 in recent copper thefts

WILMINGTON, Del. - May 10, 2010

Troopers investigated 24 incidents of copper being removed from irrigation systems between March and April. Last week, Delaware State police arrested two men who are associates another man arrested on April 30 for allegedly stealing wire from several Delmar-area irrigation systems.

Police say in court records that the men would try and sell it to salvage yards.

Three other men were caught early last week stealing wire from the Seaford Utility Building.

State police Sgt. Walter Newton says more arrests are expected.
