Conservative Cameron takes the reins in Britain

Cable was appointed as business secretary, while Liberal Democrat negotiator David Laws was appointed as chief secretary to the Treasury - a highly respected role as deputy to Treasury chief George Osborne.

Cameron and deputy prime minister Nick Clegg announced other senior jobs Wednesday. Lawmaker Liam Fox will serve as defense secretary, William Hague as foreign secretary, Kenneth Clarke as justice secretary and Theresa May as Home Office secretary.
