Mann brings performing arts to kids

PHILADELPHIA - May 12, 2010

As part of its Connecting Arts and Schools program, the Mann Center presented the cast of Raggs, a Public Broadcasting Service program aimed at 3- to 8-year-olds.

The program travels to 30 schools city-wide, presenting multi-cultural performances in music theatre and dance.

"This is the best show ever," said Tamara Poindexter, age 8. "Because they got all these characters and I liked them."

Of course not everyone has the same definition for fun. When 5-year-old Bashir Hicks got a little shy in our interview, Raggs offered some assistance.

The mission: to give every child the opportunity to be exposed, inspired and enlightened by the performing arts.

"Allowing them to experience the sights, sounds and the rythms that celebrate the magic and richnes of the performing arts," said Rhoda Blount, the Mann Education Director.
