50% to 90% off Philly outings

PENN'S LANDING - June 9, 2010

So far on Saving with 6abc, we've told you about Groupon and Jasmere, two sites that send daily emails offering subscribers money-saving deals in their neighborhoods and online.

Now, another service is available with daily deals in our area. It's called Living Social.

"We're actually selling an experience, so it's taking that online, socially active person and creating an experience for them offline," explains Steve Harrell of Living Social. "They come on, they buy their deal and then they come offline to a place like Cavanaugh's River Deck where they can actually have a good time."

Subscribers who want to take advantage of the deals have 24 hours to buy online.

The average savings are 50 to 70% -- but can go as high as 90%.

Among the deals offered so far: facials, hair treatments, pole-dancing lessons and food and drink specials, like the very first Philadelphia deal, which was offered by Cavanaugh's River Deck.

"The deal was the customer paid $10 and got a $25 credit or coupon that they could use anytime at the restaurant," explains Ken Hutchings of Cavanaugh's.

Hutchings says Living Social let customers know that the River Deck was open for the season, and they plan to offer other deals over the summer.

Meantime, other businesses are also joining the site.

"There's a lot of good ones in theworks right now," Harrell says. "Some more bars and restaurants, we're going to get a couple of cruises going up and down the Delaware River, you might even see some shore points getting into the Philly action."

It doesn't cost anything to join Living Social and you're not obligated to buy any of the deals. If you liked to sign up, click here.
