U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak claimed 42 percent and fifth-term Sen. Arlen Specter had 41 percent among Democrats likely to vote, according to the Quinnipiac University survey released Monday.
Sixteen percent are undecided and 25 percent of those who favor one candidate over the other say they may still change their minds before casting ballots, the poll found.
More voters held favorable opinions of Specter - 50 percent - than Sestak, with 42 percent. But one-third held an unfavorable view of Specter, while 43 percent said they had not heard enough about Sestak, a second-term congressman, to form an opinion.
The statewide telephone survey of 951 Democrats was conducted Wednesday to Sunday. The sampling error margin is plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.

Specter wrapped up a long day of campaigning before on Monday at Citizens Bank Park before the Phillies game. He spent the earlier hours jetting to five Pennsylvania airports in whirlwind appearances from Erie to Allentown.
At 80 years old, the five term senator is battling to overcome his Republican past and the anti-incumbancy sentiment nationwide. Both candidates are hoping today they can lock up Philadelphia's African-American vote.
"I am proud to have the endorsement of the black clergy along with the endorsement of the Philadelphia Tribune and the support of so many of my constituents in the minority community," Specter said.
Sestak, meanwhile, visited his Center City offices to rally volunteers. Sestak's been saying that "real" Democrats can't trust his opponent.
"At the end of the day he advanced the policies of George Bush's administration, who ran this country aground, and he voted for the tragic war in Iraq, that I opposed," Sestak said.
