Ex-officer held for trial in water fight shooting

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - May 19, 2010

Twenty-six-year-old Rudolph Gary Jr. was ordered Wednesday to stand trial on charges including first-degree murder in the slaying of 22-year-old Howard Williams earlier this month.

Investigators say Gary retrieved his service weapon from his car shot and Williams, the brother of his estranged wife, following an dispute sparked by a good-natured squirt gun battle. Two other people were injured.

Police say Gary was angry that his current girlfriend was splashed with water.

Defense attorney Fortunato Perri says his client was reacting to an attack on his girlfriend.

Gary was fired from the department after the shooting.
