The accident happened at Frankford Avenue and Academy Road shortly before 6:30 p.m.
The boy was rushed to nearby Aria Hospital Torresdale Division for treatment.
He is stable but still undergoing tests.
Police were able obtain a partial description of the striking auto and driver.
They were able to track down a man fitting the description along the 9300 block of Cloverly Road.
Police took that man in for questioning.
