Chicken costumes banned at Nev. polling places

RENO, Nev. (AP) - May 22, 2010

The chicken suits were added to the list of banned items Friday after weeks of Democratic ridicule directed at Republican Senate candidate Sue Lowden.

Lowden has suggested bartering with doctors for medical care, like when "our grandparents would bring a chicken to the doctor." Democrats have set up a website, "Chickens for Checkups," and have sent volunteers in chicken suits to her campaign events.

Washoe County Registrar of Voters Dan Burk says wearing a chicken suit at the polls would be an "inappropriate and obvious" advocacy message against Lowden, who is hoping to face off against Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in the general election.
