NJ forms team to monitor Gulf spill

TRENTON, N.J. - May 26, 2010

Environmental Protection Department Commissioner Bob Martin says the team will create a scientific model of the likely path of contamination and develop a response plan.

Martin says the DEP is getting daily briefings from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. DEP scientists are working with Rutgers University and the Stevens Institute of Technology to map the potential flow of oil out of the gulf.

Martin says officials are very optimistic the oil will not reach New Jersey and will not affect fishing or the summer beach season.
