Mrs. Fixit: Rebuild A Drawer

June 06, 2010

This drawer has seen better days, but it's actually worth saving. It has great joints that are in solid shape. They just need to be reglued. so just like a puzzle you're going to need to put the pieces back together.

First, dry fit the drawer. If there are any areas that need sanding. If there are, fix those first.

Have some bar clamps on hand and use a foam brush and some good quality wood glue. Ready the four corner joints and assemble the drawer. Fitting the pieces snuggly back together.

Clamp the drawer across the bottom near the front and then back across its width.

Then use a tape measure to make sure your drawer is square. The measurements diagonally corner to corner should be equal. if they're not, adjust the clamps accordingly.

Once all four sides are set you can carefully slide the bottom into place.

Once all four sides are set you can carefully slide the bottom into place. Use a small brad near the front and back to hold the bottom in place.

I told you this drawer could be saved. I'm Mrs. Fixit and it's just that simple!
