Forty-two-year-old Derbe Eckhart of Emmaus was sentenced May 18 on misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty and violating a cease-and-desist order.
An arrest affidavit filed Tuesday alleges that Eckhart assaulted a guard May 22 during a dispute over prescription medication. A preliminary hearing is scheduled next week on charges of simple and aggravated assault and resisting law enforcement.
Eckhart was charged after a 2008 raid on his Allentown-area kennel, Almost Heaven Kennel, where prosecutors said scores of animals had a variety of ailments. He told the judge he let his love of animals get out of control.
Eckhart's attorney did not immediately return a call seeking comment Tuesday night.
