Philly sports complex development scaled back

PHILADELPHIA - June 8, 2010

Comcast-Spectacor and a Baltimore-based developer unveiled plans for a massive entertainment facility dubbed "Philly Live!" in 2008. Plans called for 300,000 square feet of retail, restaurants and bars situated in the complex that's home to the city's pro sports teams.

But developer Gary Block said Monday that the economic downturn has forced the plan to be cut down to 40,000 square feet. No tenants have signed on to the project.

Block says he hopes to expand the development as the economy improves. He says the Spectrum could be demolished by the end of the year and the new development opened by 2012.

Comcast-Spectacor owns the 76ers and Flyers.
