Police: Del. bookkeeper embezzled $83,000

WILMINGTON, Del. - June 8, 2010

Amy Scott, 35, of Hockessin, Delaware is charged with theft and falsifying business records.

Police say, in April, a representative of Main Light Industries reported the alleged internal theft.

According to investigators, from the end of 2009 through 2010, Main Light Industries started to receive notices regarding unexplained owed monies to various businesses on unpaid balances.

Police say a records review of the company's books revealed multiple checks were written against the business's account between April and December of 2009.   In all, the company suffered a loss of more than $83,000.00.

Soon, police say they discovered that Scott had written multiple checks to herself, then deposited the money into her personal bank account.

Scott turned herself in to police on Tuesday. She was arraigned and released on $17,000 unsecured bond.
