Suspect who robbed bank, damaged police car ID'd

NEW CASTLE, Del. - June 9, 2010

The robbery happened around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the PNC Bank at 1 East Basin Road in New Castle.

Police say the man, identified as Jeffrey S. Mancinelli, 29, of May Avenue in New Castle, Delaware, demanded money with a note and took off.

A short time after the robbery, New Castle City Police Officers spotted a vehicle on West 9th Street and Clayton Street in the "Shawtown"  area of Old New Castle.

The vehicle was similar to one involved in a hit and run crash from earlier in the day, police said.

Officers stopped the car and contacted the operator, identified as Mancinelli, who was arrested.

Troopers say Mancinelli was acting wildly in custody.

"He leaned over and kicked out two windows of a state police patrol car and spit on a patrol officer in addition to acting disorderly in the midst of other patrons here," said Senior Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh of the Delaware State Police.

Mancinelli was charged with Robbery and Criminal Mischief.
