Officers fired upon, return fire in North Philadelphia

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - June 9, 2010

It happened around 7:00 p.m. at the Raymond Rosen public housing community located along the 2200 block of Edgley Street.

Three 39th District officers, who were in an unmarked car searching for a homicide suspect, came upon four men on a street corner.

Police say at least one of the men had a gun and opened fire on the officers.

All three officers returned fire.

One of the four civilians was shot in the thigh and stomach.

All four men scattered and a police assist was called.

One of the men fled into building C of the community.

Police surrounded the building and apprehended the man.

That man was the one that was wounded. He was rushed to Temple University Hospital where he is expected to survive his injuries.

A second suspect was also apprehended and two guns were recovered.

Police did not sustain any injuries in the incident.
