Search for justice in killing of 2-year-old boy

CHESTER, Pa. - June 14, 2010

Chester police say the 2-year-old boy, Terrence Webster, was shot in the head. His mother, Tisheta Green, 25, was shot in the left leg and his father, Thomas Webster, 26, was shot in the left hand.

Terrence died on Monday due to his injuries. Both parents were treated for their injuries and released.

The shooting happened at an apartment complex in the 1200 block of West Ninth Street around 2:30 Saturday morning. Police say the family had just gotten home when someone opened fire.

Chester police say they don't have a motive yet and the suspect remains at large. Anyone with information is asked to call 610-447-7931

When word of the shooting got out, children and adults starting bringing stuffed animals to the boy's doorstep. Derrick Davis and his daughter left her favorite teddy bear.

"It's a shame, man. I'm disgusted with it. This is disgusting right here," Davis said.

To Terrence's grandmother, Robin Powell, none of it makes any sense.

"They ran up to them intentionally trying to kill my family," she said. When asked why, she said "I don't know. This is what I'm saying, this is why justice needs to be done. I don't know if he was high or if he was paid to do it... I don't know."

Powell has seen more than her share of tragedy. It was just last April when she lost her 23-year-old son, Thomas Green, Jr., to gun violence. Now, it has taken her 2-year-old grandson.

"I'm losing my faith because it seems justice not being served. Everybody is dying. I don't want to lose my faith, I want to keep my faith in God."

Violence continues to devastate Chester at a time when the city is trying to make an economic comeback. Four years ago, Harrah's opened a multi-million dollar casino and racetrack on the banks of the Delaware River.

The $115 million soccer stadium and home to the Philadelphia Union is set to have its grand opening on June 27th.

Council Member John Linder said the violence in Chester is out-of-control and they need help, saying "If we have to get the ATF in here, if we have to get the federal people to help us out, the state police, that's what we're going to need to do to get this city under control."

A barbecue benefit for the family is planned Tuesday in the neighborhood to help defray funeral expenses.
