Superior Court Judge John Almeida dismissed the charge against 18-year-old Lavance Gadsden of Pemberton Township on Monday.
Almeida ruled that there wasn't probable cause to support the indictment because a pre-existing heart condition caused the death of 15-year-old Laron Brown, also of Pemberton Township. The judge also said Gadsden's actions didn't meet the legal definition of reckless.
Police had said that Gadsden struck Brown in the chest because Brown refused to help Gadsden confront another group of youths.
