The military says three commando companies and one special forces battalion penetrated two miles (three kilometers) into Iraq. It said four rebels were killed in the incursion Wednesday.
The military says warplanes have pounded Kurdish rebel positions and mortar and anti-aircraft units deeper inside Iraqi territory on Wednesday.
The military says the cross-border offensive was ordered after the rebels attempted an unsuccessful attack on troops near the Turkish-Iraqi border.
