Police picked up the pursuit of a beige SUV at 45th and Chestnut streets at around 10:15 p.m.
The police chased the SUV, believed to be taken in a carjacking, west on Belmont to City Avenue, then north on City Avenue to eastbound I-76.
The pursued SUV exited the freeway at Girard Avenue and headed south along 34th Street until turning west on Walnut Street.
Police followed the SUV as far as 50th Street before losing sight of it.
Moments later, they received calls of an accident at 44th and Sansom streets.
A quick response netted two arrests around the corner at 45th and Chestnut.
There is no word yet on where the carjacking occurred.
During the pursuit, the SUV struck several civilian vehicles and at least one police cruiser.
