Vigil held for dog hanged in playground

PHILADELPHIA - June 17, 2010

The vigil took place at Barrett Playground at 8th and Duncannon streets on Thursday, which is the location where the dog was found dead on Tuesday.

A Pennsylvania SPCA humane law enforcement officer found the female, a pit bull mix between nine months and one year old, hanging from playground equipment.

The SPCA has posthumously named the dog "Flora."

The dog is believed to have been hanged in the early morning hours and died as a result. Investigators told Action News there was little doubt this act was deliberate.

A reward of $4,500 is being offered to catch whoever killed the dog.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Pennsylvania SPCA toll-free cruelty hotline at 866-601-7722.
