Forget the safe and predictable matched pair of lamps. Swap out the shades on some of your lamps to give your style a little more interst. Look for color cues around your room and have some fun.
The same goes for your lamp hardware. Who says the harp that came with your lamp is the right one, a larger or smaller harp can change the placement of a shade and give it a whole new look.
Want to raise a shade but don't have a taller harp? Try an extension that screws on where a final would sit. And how about those finials. Find yourself some new and interesting finials to spark some visual interest around the room.
Want to add even more interest? Dangle a tassle from the light switch or the base of the harp so it hangs below the shade. You could also add trim or accents to your shade to give them a whole new look.
Changing the type of bulb you have in a lamp, from bright to soft or to a color will change the look of your lamps as well.
