Arizona wildfire forces hundreds to evacuate

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - June 20, 2010

Authorities announced the news and revised the number of evacuations at a Sunday press conference. They didn't specify how many hikers are missing but said "two active searches" are under way.

City spokeswoman Kimberly Ott says residents of hundreds of homes on 1,044 parcels north of Flagstaff are being advised to leave because of a wildfire reported Sunday morning. She says the blaze has burned 3,000 acres and is spreading.

Meanwhile, evacuation orders have been lifted for the 300-acre fire in southeastern Flagstaff, which is 30 percent contained. A California man was arrested on suspicion of starting that fire Saturday by leaving behind hot coals at a campsite.

Authorities say a third fire has been reported in western Flagstaff, but there's no word yet on its size.
