Update: Arrest after Trooper attacked in Bucks Co.

BENSALEM, Pa. - June 21, 2010

The suspect was found hiding in a swamp area near the Delaware River in Bensalem.

The manhunt began early Monday morning when the suspect was spotted by the trooper as he tried to break into cars at the Cornwells-Heights Train Station.

State Troopers fired shots at the suspect who drove off in a white Volkswagen with New York plates. The suspect then crashed and ran off into the woods. He eluded police in the wooded area for almost 4 hours.

Action News has learned that the suspect in today's attempted car break-ins also assaulted a retired Bensalem police officer last Tuesday night outside the Neshaminy Mall. The alleged suspect was again breaking into vehicles at the Mall when the retired officer attempted to stop him. The retired officer is doing O.K. according to authorities.

Again, the man has been taken into custody. No word on charge at this time, but law enforcement officials tell Action News they believe he has been responsible for several car break-ins in recent weeks.
