Deptford woman stabbed in back yard

DEPTFORD, N.J. - June 21, 2010

It happened in the 100 block of Betsy Ross Way just before noon. The woman was treated at a nearby hospital and released a few hours after the attack.

Officers arrived to the scene within 90 seconds and found the victim, Jessica Snyder, 26, on the ground with a puncture wound and a cut on her arm.

Police dogs were brought in to search a wooded area near her home for the suspect. The woman told police the man, a white male, was wearing jean shorts, and a teal t-shirt. He was clean-shaven and in his early 30s.

The attacker stabbed and slashed at the woman while her 3-year-old son was inside the house. She suffered a puncture wound and a superficial cut on her arm, according to police.

Police searched a wooded area nearby as neighbors watched and talked among themselves and to reporters about their fears because the neighborhood is supposed to be quiet and because the attack happened in broad daylight.

Neighbors tell Action News there have been incidents in the last few weeks: A cab driver had his throat slashed just around the corner from this most recent attack. Authorities tell Action News that the two crimes appear to be unrelated.

Police say they are exploring several angles in this latest attack, but they have no suspect or motive as of Monday night.
