State of emergency extended in Chester

CHESTER, Pa. - June 23, 2010

The state of emergency includes a curfew from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Council voted 5-0 for the extension. The council and Mayor Wendell Butler will make modifications to allow for adults and teens who work past 9:00 p.m. to be out after curfew.

The state of emergency was set to expire on Thursday.

Under the order, people are not allowed to gather in groups of more than three and police have also stepped up patrols.

Mayor Butler declared the state of emergency last week after four people were murdered in the city in eight days.

One of the victims was 2-year-old Terrence Webster, who was killed in 1200 block of West Ninth Street earlier this month. Police say the family had just gotten home when someone opened fire. His parents were also wounded.

Mayor Butler called Webster's killing "the last straw."
